Kidfree Reading
The concept of choosing not to have children continues to fascinate both the childed and unchilded. Even in this day and age of “anything goes” lifestyles, I often get nervous laughs when I tell folks I’m writing a book called Kidfree & Lovin’ It. But these are soon followed by mention of one or two friends and relatives who have chosen not to have kids, and questions about the group as a whole.
Are there any ‘truisms’ about childfrees?” “Do they prefer pets to kids?” “What are their reasons for not wanting kids?” “Are their marriages happier?” These questions are asked and answered in my Kidfree Survey of over 3,000 unchilded adults.
Since 1 in 5 people today will not have kids (20.4%), everyone knows a “non-parent,” even if they don’t understand them. Many agree there needs to be more literature on us, because choosing not to parent is a growing trend in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe and parts of Asia.
The childfree phenomenon is currently on the cusp of “novel enough to pique society’s interest” and “widespread enough to warrant examination.” Either way, we “CFs” do have issues to contend with. Here are some articles and books that may be of interest to you whether you are a confirmed childfree or still on the fence...
